Privacy Policy
- Shield AI analyzes pages on your device. Page content never leaves your browser.
- Sharing anonymous ad signals is off by default. You choose whether to turn it on.
- We have no accounts, sell no data, and use no analytics or advertising trackers.
1. What the extension does locally
To block ads, Shield AI needs to read the web pages you visit. It does this entirely inside your browser:
- Network requests are matched by Chrome's built-in Declarative Net Request engine against filter lists stored in the extension.
- Cosmetic filters and the on-device AI model inspect page structure (element names, sizes, link host names, short disclosure labels such as "Sponsored") to hide ads.
- Tracking protection uses Chrome's cookie API to delete cookies set by known ad and tracker domains. It only checks each cookie's domain; cookie values are never read, stored or transmitted. To keep you logged in, the extension keeps a local list of site names you open directly, and never removes their cookies.
- Tracking protection uses Chrome's privacy API to turn off ad personalization features (Topics, Protected Audience, ad measurement) and hyperlink auditing, and optionally WebRTC local IP exposure and page preloading. You control each setting in the dashboard.
- Your settings, custom filters, allowed sites and elements hidden by the AI are stored in your browser's local extension storage.
None of this information is transmitted to us.
2. Information sent to our servers
2.1 Filter list updates (always)
The extension periodically downloads filter lists from easylist.to and the Shield AI rule list from our API. These are ordinary downloads; they include no identifiers, cookies or browsing data. As with any web request, the receiving server sees your IP address; we do not store IP addresses (see 2.3).
2.2 Anonymous ad signals (only if you opt in)
If you enable Share anonymous ad signals (during setup or in the dashboard), the extension sends reports about elements the AI detected, elements you marked as ads, elements you restored, and sites you reported as broken. Each report contains only:
- the site's host name and a coarse path with identifiers removed (for example
news.example.com /world/*) — never query strings or fragments; - a CSS selector for the element, its tag and a size class (for example
iab-300x250); - host names of third-party ad networks linked from the element;
- which disclosure labels were present (for example "sponsored"), but not the page's text;
- the model's confidence score and signal names;
- the UTC date and a random token that changes every day, used only to count distinct reporters.
Reports never contain page text, form data, full URLs, cookies, account information, or any persistent identifier. Turning sharing off deletes any reports not yet sent.
2.3 Server logs
Our servers keep request logs without IP addresses or query strings. IP addresses are used only in memory for rate limiting to prevent abuse and are discarded within one hour.
3. How we use shared signals
Signals are aggregated to find ads that many users encounter. A candidate becomes a rule only when enough independent reporters agree and false-positive feedback is low. Published rules are part of the public Shield AI filter list. We do not use signals for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to ad blocking, and we do not sell or share them.
4. Retention
Raw reports are deleted after 90 days. Published rules may be kept for as long as they are useful for blocking ads.
5. Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Shield AI's use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide and improve ad blocking; it is not transferred to third parties, used for personalized advertising, or used to determine creditworthiness.
6. Your choices
- Turn sharing on or off at any time in Dashboard → Shield AI.
- Clear locally stored AI data with Dashboard → Shield AI → Local data → Clear.
- Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data.
7. Children
Shield AI does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
8. Changes
We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date. Material changes to what is shared will require your consent in the extension.
